Abstract

The article addresses a study of short-circuit (SC) current levels in constructing power facilities comprising various types of power plants – nuclear power plants with small modular reactors (SNPP), gas turbine power plants, and power plants based on renewable energy sources (RES). Combining different types of generation sources into power facilities with their further development can lead to a growth in SC current levels and give rise to a problem of coordinating them at the power plants and in the electrical networks of power facilities. The problem of coordinating the SC current levels consists in optimal dynamic coordination (at the stages of forecasting, planning, design and operation) of the electrical equipment parameters with the existing and prospective SC current levels in the power facility. To analyze changes in SC currents, the domestically produced ARU RZA software was selected. By using this software, which includes an electrical circuit element "current source", it is possible to take into account the inverter installations of wind power plants (WPP) and solar power plants (SPP) when calculating SC currents. The SC currents in the main circuits of power facilities have been calculated, and the parameters of the electrical equipment recommended for use have been coordinated. The coordination results have shown that the SC current levels remain within the values of the electrical equipment parameters. The in-feed of SC currents from RESs is insignificant in comparison with the SC currents of conventional electric power sources, a circumstance that points to the possibility of constructing power facilities with the participation of an SNPP and a significant share of RESs.
